Here's what it actually means — every Canadian will be forced to show government approved ID to access their social media accounts. Your real name. Attached to every account. Given directly to the platforms.
And when you connect that to Bill C-22 which forces telecoms to retain your metadata without a warrant, Bill C-9 which criminalizes hate speech, Bill C-8 which gives the government the power to cut your internet access, and the soon to be retabled Bill C-63 — you start to see the full picture.
