A comment from Garth Turners blog that I have been reading for years.
While everyone is counting their money, here is some words from the young Canadians struggling to come up with a reason to live and work here.
“What’s the point living here?
I am a young person born and raised in Ontario.
Maybe 5 years ago myself and all my friends had 0% chance of ever living elsewhere and now all of us are eyeing America. All of us have decent enough white collar jobs.
All of us would rather fight for the US if WW3 broke out. I would feel like a traitor fighting “for Canada”.
What is Canada anymore? Not what I was born into and raised in.
Every decision this country has made has made my life harder EVERY single year. I work hard everyday, got my first job at 14 at timmies, saved money, went to school, got educated, and now I won’t be able to afford my own home, my own piece of land…
What’s the point in staying here?
Who turned Canada into a tax farm?”
“Canada is a scam POS place to live now. Full of greed.
The world is taking advantage of our lax immigration laws, immigrants coming here are multiplying like gremlins destroying our health care and available jobs.
People glorify real estate and think it’s a good thing for it to go up faster than the rate of inflation.
The scam government controls supply and demand of real estate by turning up and down the immigration taps.
Canada no longer receives my business, no gifts, no eating out, no tipping, etc….”
“I am grooming my adult kids to leave; I’m leaving. Canada has changed from a place for educated immigrants to a place for desperate refugees/asylum seekers. We are following Frances model. Wich means taxes go way, way up and riots and chaos go up with them.
What the frak do you think is gonna happen when 4 or 5 hundred thousand brown dudes in one city are freezing and hungry and have no work?
So Canada is great…. if you’re looking for a free ride on the tax payer dollar. If you’re trying to build wealth? Go south.”

Dear Danielle,
This unsolicited letter is founded with the best of intentions for Alberta and Saskatchewan, and by extension, our country. For the record, I am a big fan of yours as a smart, energetic, proactive, diligent, conservative, and excellent communicator who includes an endearing element of charm.
So, I feel compelled to comment on the current pipeline MOU now in negotiation and the temerity to suggest an evolution of your approach.
Everyone understands you and Premier Moe, from my home province of Saskatchewan, are caught in a tenuous situation. As I am one who favours independence (a default position as the only real solution to self-determination for the citizens of our provinces), this last round has made clear you are a strong federalist, as is our Premier.
Those sentiments are fraught with political risk, given the composition of the UCP and the possibility of fragmentation, somewhat already evident. One fully understands it is difficult for the Premiers of Alberta and Saskatchewan to favour independence.
